This program is aimed at people who live in or near Akumal. Looking to volunteer with sea turtles in the area? There’s always room for you here. The nesting season runs from May 1st to December 15th, with daily shifts alongside our team. Our night patrols keep local raccoons from preying on nests and attacking turtles and their hatchlings. Every hour you give to this work leaves a positive mark, on the beaches and in your own life.Este programa está dirigido a personas que viven en Akumal o sus alrededores. ¿Buscas voluntariado con tortugas marinas en la zona? Aquí siempre hay lugar para ti. La temporada de anidación corre del 1 de mayo al 15 de diciembre, con turnos diarios junto a nuestro equipo. Nuestros patrullajes nocturnos evitan que los mapaches de la zona depreden los nidos y ataquen a las tortugas y sus crías. Cada hora que le dedicas a esta labor deja una huella positiva, en las playas y en tu propia vida.

In a classroom, no contact with turtles: our history, sea turtle biology, approach rules, and the NOM-162-SEMARNAT-2012 legal framework. Join a real night patrol under supervision: approach a nesting female, measure and mark the nest, and fill out the data sheet.Te sumas a un patrullaje nocturno real, supervisado: acercamiento a una hembra anidando, medición y marcado del nido, y llenado del formato de datos.
Hatchling ReleaseLiberación de Crías
Protect a nest close to hatching and release the babies safely — anti-predator cages, the “moon” and nest-protector roles, and caring for weak hatchlings.Proteges un nido próximo a eclosionar y liberas a las crías de forma segura: jaulas anti-depredador, los roles de “luna” y protector del nido, y el cuidado de crías débiles.
Nest Closure & CertificationCierre del Nido y Certificación

A red-light flashlight (if you can get one, that would be ideal). Its use is required. We have a few available to borrow for the first 3 volunteers who arrive. You can also buy one at camp for $400 MXN (not required).Linterna con luz roja (si la puedes conseguir, sería ideal). Su uso es indispensable. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?¿QUÉ ROPA DEBO USAR?
Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting sandy, black or dark-colored (no light colors, patterns, or reflective material). We recommend wearing pants to avoid discomfort on your knees.Ropa cómoda que puedas ensuciar con arena de color negro u oscuro (sin colores claros, estampados ni reflejantes). Te recomendamos llevar pantalón, para evitar molestia en las rodillas.
